FAQs

What size BBQ should I get?

A small charcoal BBQ should suffice if you're feeding a small family and only plan to use it once every so often, as they're harder to clean than gas barbecues. Even if it means two rounds of cooking because you can only fit four burgers or sausages on at a time, it's probably better value for money if it suits your needs.

Gas barbecues of the 4 and 6 burner variety are better suited for medium-to-large catering. Maybe you have 10-20 people round for a barbecue and you want to minimise cooking time so you can spend more time with your guests. This type of barbecue is best for you.

How to clean a BBQ?

You might want a scourer or a hard brush to scratch off any burnt food from the surface of the barbecue first. Then get a sponge with a rough surface to give it a good scrub; meat especially can produce a lot of grease, so you'll want to use a good dish-washing liquid to help. Spick and span!

How to light a charcoal BBQ?

To light a charcoal barbecue, you'll first need to buy some charcoal for fuel. You can get this from a supermarket. Then it's as simple as using some extra fuel, such as some paper, cardboard or firelighters and light with matches or a lighter. Wait until coals are white-hot with a covering of ash on before commencing cooking.

How to light a gas BBQ?

Lighting a gas barbecue is much like turning on the oven in your kitchen. The actual method will depend on the model, but usually, it just involves turning on the burners and pressing the ignition. Unlike a kitchen oven, it'll require a temporary gas supply of propane or butane gas. Propane and butane usually come in the form of gas canisters or bottles which you connect to your barbecue via a tube or regulator. Most of our barbecues are supplied with regulators.

Are barbecues bad for you?

No, not really, as long as you have them in moderation, like with everything. Grilling food can even be a healthier option by not using oil to cook in.

Cheap Barbecues UK

Putting on a lovely meal for the family doesn't have to break the bank. Take a look below to find out what makes our barbecues so incredibly worth the money.

Gas Barbecues

Gas barbecues are a modern alternative to the traditional charcoal grills which used to dominate British back gardens. Using modern technology gas BBQs get hot much quicker and allow you to maintain an even cooking temperature across the whole grill, giving you complete control of how you want to cook your meat.

When you buy a gas barbecue from BillyOh, you're getting a lot more than just a grill. Take our Matrix six-burner barbecue, for example. As well as a large cooking area, you are also equipped with a side burner for keeping food warm between grilling and serving, and a side table, where you might want to keep plates ready for dishing up.

Alternatively, the Alabama sports only four burners, but offers a sink for hand-washing ease during food preparation and includes both a cover and a regulator in the price. Could it be the perfect barbecue for you?

All of our gas barbecues are wheeled, allowing for easy access and movement around your garden for when you need to dust it off after the winter.

Charcoal Barbecues

A classic option, charcoal BBQs have been around for centuries and are a traditional way of cooking food. Many people prefer to opt for charcoal as they view it as a 'real' barbecue, as opposed to the alternative which uses gas burners and is more much akin to a kitchen oven.

One of the main appeals of charcoal BBQs is the unique, smokey flavour they supplement the meat with, which can't quite be achieved in the same way with a gas barbecue. They're also a cheaper option compared to gas - but you will need to restock on bags of charcoal from time to time, which will cost.

Usually a lot lighter and more portable than gas barbecues, a kettle or oil drum barbecue can be easily transported between locations.

Quality

Our selection of barbecues is so big that our cheapest, our red portable grill, starts at just £49. Some of our more expensive options, available in a range of sizes, are real statement pieces and will add a touch of luxury to your outdoor space.

Our signature barbecue, the Huntsville, comes in four gas burner and six gas burner varieties, depending on how many you're cooking for. It also has a small cupboard underneath the grill, perfect if you need some additional storage space and want to keep plates and cups or glasses safe and sound.
